It has been our dream for 30 years to live a sustainable,
self-sufficient lifestyle. Now that our youngest is graduating from
high school, we have decided to take a giant leap and go for what we have been
dreaming about all these years. Time is going by too quickly, so it’s now
or never. We purchased 12.7 acres in Chatham County and have worked with
Xtreme Green Homes to redesign a modular into a passive solar home to get us
started on our way. Our plan is to start planting our fruit and nut trees
this fall, along with our grape vines, hops, blackberries, raspberries and
perennial vegetables, most of which will be transplanted or started from plants
at our current home. Our hope is to build our farm into a business that
will be profitable enough to one day be full time employment for us both.
